Serena Saenz sings Pamina
As member of the Staatsoper Berlin International Opera Studio, Serena Sáenz was due to sing Papagena in the new production of Yuval Sharon’s production of Die Zauberflöte, when two days before Premiere during the general rehearsal, she was asked to jump in as Pamina for the opening night, because Anna Prohaska had laringitis and was undisposed.
Serena was given the big opportunity to debut a main role in Staatsoper Berlin with only 24 years old conducted by Alondra de la Parra.
To remark Sharon’s Zauberflöte production has an extra physical challenge, singers fly. They hang with a harness and are moved around the lengths of the show; Pamina is brought 9m up from stage hight for her main Aria “Ach rich fühl’s.
With no stage rehearsal Serena jumped in to this exciting performance, the 17th of February 2019 is a day for history in her career.
Premiere ended with great success and she was offered more shows as Pamina next season, now she will have the chance to deepen the role with rehearsals, I’m sure she will much appreciate that.
