Although she is a young artist she is regularly engaged in leading opera houses including Staatsoper Berlin, Gran Teatre Liceu and Teatro Real.
In 2021 she was the 1rst prize winner of the Montserrat Caballé International Singing Competition and was honored with multiple prizes at both the Paris Opera Competition , and the Viñas Competition, including the Audience Prize in Paris and Montserrat.
In 2022 she will make her debut as Norina in Don Pasquale with the Fundació Opera de Catalunya, a role she will also sing at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. She will also be Zerlina in a new production of Don Giovanni at the Staatsoper Berlin with Vincent Huguet directing and Daniel Baremboim conducting.
She has also sung Carmina Burana under Simon Halsey, Scarlatti’s programme with Accademia Bizantina at the Barroktage festival in Berlin, Mozart’s Mass in C Minor with the RTVE orchestra and choir and Mahler’s Symphony No. 4 with the Euskadi Symphony Orchestra conducted by Semyon Bychkov, among others.
Among her upcoming engagements she will sing Die Zauberflöte in Barcelona under the baton of Gustavo Dudamel and will make her debut at Teatro Real de Madrid and the Kongelige Theater in Copenhagen.
She studied at the Conservatorio del Liceu in Barcelona and completed her Masters degree and Konzertexam degree at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin. In 2018 she became a member of the Internationales Opernstudio of the Staatsoper Berlin for two seasons, where shortly after joining the company she took on leading roles at the Staatsoper. She has attended master classes with Montserrat Caballé, Mariella Devia, Teresa Berganza, Neil Shicoff and others. Parallel to her musical studies Serena Sáenz received extensive training in ballet and modern dance in Barcelona, fluent in English, Italian, German.
